Severity: Scale 2 has a low degree of severity. It has mild effects and generally does not pose any significant health concerns, or is easily managed.

Test Overview: The prevalence of overweight or obese dogs in domesticated canine populations has been reported to range between 23 - 41% . In Australia, a survey of 428 vet practices revealed that 41% of surveyed dogs were considered overweight or obese . The Labrador retriever is one of the most documented breeds for obesity prevalence [3-5].To date, two studies have reported an association between the POMC mutation and weight in Labrador retrievers [6,7]. However, it is important to note that both the studies (Raffan et al n=310 and Mankowska et al. n=126) used relatively small populations of Labrador retrievers, thus the effect of this mutation is not definitive.
